  • Chandra Glover, NBCT CTE

    Department Chair
    Chandra Glover is the Dance Department Chair and is currently in her 19th Season at Northwest. She was a student teacher here under the direction of Kim Hotchner. Mrs. Glover has taught MS and HS Ballet, Jazz, MS Dance Majors classes, and HS Modern classes. She currently serves as the State Director for the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA), the Jr Chapter Sponsor for NHSDA, an Advisor for National Junior Honor Society, a member of the Scholarship Committee, a member of Charlotte Ballet's Education & Outreach Committee, a Board Member for the Amity Medical Group, and a field trip guru. When she is not teaching, she is enjoying her family, crafting, and shopping.

  • Amelia Binford

    Amelia has been involved in dancing for over 35 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Performance and Dance Education Certification from Winthrop University. While at Winthrop, she performed in many shows with Winthrop Dance Theatre and Rhythm Quest, as well as several student choreography showcases. Amelia has toured with Dance Caravan and is an active member of Sinergismo Dance and Performing Art Company of Charlotte, North Carolina. She has performed with the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra, Carolina Voices, and the Singing Christmas Tree. She was a semi-finalist in Fox Network’s television show So You Think You Can Dance. Amelia has played the role of Bebe in Theatre Charlotte’s production of A Chorus Line. She has also received several awards for her innovative choreography. Amelia is currently entering her 18th year of teaching Modern, Jazz, and Tap Dance at Northwest School of the Arts in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. She was the choreographer for NWSA’s production of Les Miserables and has served as Assistant Choreographer for 17 other NWSA productions including The Color Purple. She has choreographed 10 of NWSA’s Middle School Musical Productions including Seussical Jr. and Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. Amelia has been the Assistant Choreographer for Theatre Charlotte’s production of The Full Monty and the Choreographer for C.A.S.T.’s production of Marat/Sade with which she won the Metrolina Theater Award for Outstanding Choreography in a Drama for Marat/Sade. She has also presented many other original works for the GAMUT Dance Company of Davidson College, Winthrop University’s ST-Arts Program, Carolina Voices, Northwest School of the Arts, and Momentum Dance of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Amelia was also the Former Artistic Director, Owner, and Creator of Momentum Dance in Fort Mill, South Carolina for 8 years. Amelia looks forward to continuing creating new works for the stage, inspiring others through the art of dance, living the life of an artist, and Unicorn-ing around!

  • Kaitlyn Whitaker

    Kaitlyn Whitaker earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Choreography and Performance with Dance Education concentration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also earned her Professional Educator's Initial License enabling her to teach dance at K-12 schools. Through her work as a research assistant for Dr. Teresa Heiland, she helped Heiland complete her book, Leaping into Dance Literacy through The Language of Dance(R) and developed an interest in Language of Dance(R) and its pedagogy. This led her to complete her certification in the Language of Dance Foundations 1 & 2 courses through the Language of Dance(R) Center. Presently, Kaitlyn shares her passion for dance by teaching aspiring young dancers as a secondary (6-12) dance instructor.
